Masterclass Andalusia presents participants with the opportunity to study prepared concert repertoire with eminent violin pedagogues in the ancient Andalusian city of Cordoba, Spain.
Masterclass Andalusia also presents several unique lecture demonstrations, panel discussions and concert opportunities in historic local venues. Topics will include Improvisation, Creative Options for Solo Careers, and an in-depth look at the art of Flamenco music as it relates to the proper performance style of the Spanish virtuoso violin repertoire.
will gain insight into performance practices and cultural influences specific
to Spanish-themed works of composers such as Sarasate, Falla, Albeniz, Bizet,
Lalo, and others, as well as the musical style known as "Flamenco".
Participation in Masterclass Andalusia is tuition free and limited to 8 young artist violinists. All tuition, and room and board expenses for these students will be sponsored by several collaborating Spanish institutions.
Masterclass participants are asked to arrive prepared to perform a standard concerto (or major virtuoso concert work), an unaccompanied Sonata or Partita of Bach (or one Ysaye Unaccompanied Sonata in place of Bach), as well as a group of three short pieces of Spanish origin or inspiration (i.e Sarasate, Falla, Kreisler, etc.).
A rigorous daily schedule of Masterclasses and seminars will culminate at the end of the week in a public performance at the lavish Royal Circulo de Amistad.
Cultural enrichment opportunities abound in Cordoba, a city of extraordinary beauty predating the Roman era. The schedule of activities includes many opportunities to tour ancient historic sites, to practice speaking the language, and to enjoy the excellent Andalusian cuisine.
